Jonas Holy Rock, an Oglala Sioux warrior in 1876, fought under Big Road and Crazy horse at the Battle of Little Big Horn, in which he captured five cavalry horses and counted two coups. In 1890, he served as a United States Army scout and had the reputation of being one of the army’s most expert trackers.
